Wood & Canvas Canoe Construction
Each year we offer a class on wood and canvas canoe construction. During
a week long course, participants will build one canoe. One student may take
home the canoe for the cost of materials ($1100 to $1400 depending on model).
The building class is limited to 10 students.
This class demonstrates
both the solid form and the"open form" type of wood and canvas canoe construction.
The open form involves using a form that is similar to that used to build
a wood-strip canoe. The form is much easier to construct than the solid
form often used in wood and canvas construction and it can be readily taken
apart for storeage when not in use.
This class is designed for those wanting to learn the skills to build a canoe on their own and for those who would simply like the experience of building a finely crafted wooden canoe. Canoe Building Class: August 9-15, 2009 $750 ~ Wood

"I finished the kayak. Thanks so much for helping to make this
a reality. Spending " Alex had prepared the stock before I arrived. We worked steadily
the first day and the days to come. He gave me room to build my own boat,
but was there to help when I needed it. In the end (eight days) I had
on the canvas and two coats of filler. Thanks again, Alex, for all your
help. I will be proud to paddle this beautiful canoe for years to come".
